Joe Gorishek

Hello! My name is Joe, I am a 17-year-old senior at Mason High School. Through the high school I am dual-enrolled at LCC and am also very involved in the robotics program. I am the owner of J&M lawn care and Snow removal, I would love to hear from anyone who is looking for help with their lawn care or snow removal needs. I will be prompt to answer any phone calls or text messages. Please contact me anytime at 517-833-0657.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I live with my Mom, Dad, Sister, and two dogs.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am very interested in real estate, engineering, and early education. I have not decided exactly what I will pursue as a career, but I do have my toes wet in all three of those fields.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Klavons, Imperial garden, City Limits, The Vault.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in Mason for about 16 years, I really enjoy the small community.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
When I first started my business I had a need to rent a trailer, I posted on craigslist to see what people might offer and I got a response from my now friend Richard. He agreed that if I installed new lights I could use it until I bought my own. Anytime I would go to his house to pick it up or drop it off he would be outside waiting to talk to me. Through this, he has become somewhat of a mentor to me. Being 17, I have not lived much life, so talking to someone who is in their 60’s is always eye-opening. Richard told me all about his career as an MSU professor as well as his experiences with education and real estate. Now that he is retired he spends a lot of time monitoring the stock market and fixing to flip homes. He is the most interesting person I have met because, despite our dramatic age difference, it is very easy to talk to and learn from him.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would travel to San Diego, I have been twice and love to explore the coast and the city, the amazing contrast between city and nature so close to one another is unlike anything I have ever experienced anywhere else.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
One of my favorite movies is Mrs. Doubtfire and one of my favorite TV shows is Manifest.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Being in high school, I don’t always feel comfortable dishing out advice. But when I do, it is often to keep hustling and putting yourself in situations where opportunities are presented to you.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
The top item on my bucket list is to go on a cross-country road trip. Driving up to New York, then back down to California, stopping along the way.

Q: Who is your “go-to” band when you can’t decide what music you want to hear?
Glass Animals

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Daily Scoop

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would love to have lunch with Elon Musk. I feel he is really looking into clean energy on a large scale and that is something that really interests me.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing is how small and safe it feels. I really enjoy how many people I have met through my business that I really connect with.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5-10 years I hope to see myself having made a decision on what I would like to pursue, I would like to have found something that both feels fulfilling as well as gives me the time and resources to explore.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Most people do not know my obsession with craigslist. I spend too much time looking for good deals or things to fix up in order to flip.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
San Diego, up in the mountains. Especially when you can both see the City skyline as well as the giant valleys full of vegetation.
