Sue Craft

Hello, my name is Sue Craft. I have lived in Mason since I was in the 3rd grade. I am a wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, friend, and business owner.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m married to Mike. I have three adult children: Josh (married to Heather), Sara (married to Steve Bellnap), and Jeremiah. They have given me 11 fun-loving grandchildren. I am so blessed to have them all living right here in Mason, so close to me.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Craft Care Home is a 4th-generation family-owned business. It was the first licensed Adult Foster Care Home in the tri-county area 65 years ago. That is an amazing fact considering how many there are now in the area. I started working for my mother-in-law when I was 16. 21 years ago my husband Mike and I bought the business. My daughter Sara and many wonderful employees, as well as grandchildren, help provide excellent care and love for our residents. I love all the friendships created by Craft Care Home. Over the years there are countless wonderful seniors, families, and employees that have impacted my life and made me a better person.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love food! Any restaurant is a favorite. I will find something I like on the menu, trust me. Restaurants I favor are diners where I can sit in a booth crossed-legged!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
Nearly all of my life!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Penney Wooley! She and her husband Gene owned and operated “The Three Chefs.” She is now a resident of Craft Care Home where she still helps run the kitchen. I love her and her stories of Mason long ago are the best. She knows something about everything about the places and people of Mason. She is kind-hearted, a worker bee, and truly wholesome.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I have enjoyed many beautiful places; however, I have never been to New England states. I look forward to seeing Main, eating lobster, and shopping at Martha’sVinyard. Bucket list!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I love romantic comedies and movies with a twist!

Q: What advice would you give to people?
My advice: This too shall pass! Whatever situation we face, time will bring us through. Murphy’s law: What can happen will! So with that, always be prepared!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To travel to New England.

Q: Who is your “go-to” band when you can’t decide what music you want to hear?
On the radio, I listen to 99.1. I listen to 70’s classic, Elton John and Carol King on Siri.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Our Stunning courthouse is the single most visible site that says, “Welcome to our beautiful quaint town of Mason”! I love the courthouse, and the square it creates.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself in the next 5-10 years working less and playing more! Please God, let it be so!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know I have claustrophobia. Yep! I hate being encapsulated in an airplane, the possibility of being stuck in an elevator, and because of this traveling has been a challenge, but I find the strength to endure through it.

Q: Favorite month? Favorite holiday? Best single day on the calendar?
My favorite month is June. Favorite holiday is the 4th of July. My favorite day is the first day of the Summer!!

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A 10 out of 10 is a day spent at our cottage on the lake with my beloved family and or friends with plenty of Euchre, or any game, sunshine, laughter, good food, and no mess to clean! lol

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My husband inspires me to be the best I can be. Watching him succeed through trial and error, rising to the challenges, and not being afraid to face adversity have been key in building on my own weaknesses.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
I love the smell of fresh-cut grass, home-cooked meals, and the ocean/sea.

Q: Who would you like to see nominated for The Faces of Ingham County?
I would like to nominate my husband, Mike.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Home means comfort, safety, love, and acceptance!
