Cory Hummel

I am a graduate of Mason High School Class of 1996. I have lived in the area for most of my life. I own Speedy G Bail Bonds. I am also involved with a few local charities, the two most notable are Give-A-Kid Projects, & The Alexandrea Robertson Memorial, or “ARM”.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am married to my best friend Mindy. We have two amazing daughters, Alex, & Katie, a granddaughter Madelyn, & two dogs (Niko & Bo).

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am primarily a Bail Bondsman. In layman’s terms, I travel around the state of bonding people out of jail. What I love most about my job is that I travel around meeting all kinds of new people. I love the fact that my job allows me to provide a service I can truly help people in need.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
This one is complicated. Barnhill’s Westside Deli (not a restaurant but I eat there about 3 times a week), & Mason Depot (It’s closed now but hopefully it will open soon)

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived or worked in the community since I’ve been 16 years old. So about 38 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
This is a tough one. I have met so many great and interesting people in our community. I would probably have to say, Monnie Dunn. His life story is very interesting.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would probably have to say Greece because it’s a very historic country.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I love the TV show Big Bang Theory.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
If you feel like you have fallen on hard times, and you have dug a hole that you don’t think you’ll ever get out of, don’t panic, keep scratching & clawing. You’ll eventually get out. Remember some of the most successful people ever have fallen on hard times.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would like to go skydiving.

Q: Who is your “go-to” band when you can’t decide what music you want to hear?
My “go-to” band is Shinedown.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I have to. The first one is Westside Deli. I grew up about two blocks from there. I eat there all the time, I still do. The second wise is the video store in downtown Mason. When I was a kid are used to walk there all the time to get the latest and greatest video games.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would have to say, Gordon Ramsay. The reason why is because I am a chef at heart. he has taught me pretty much everything I know about cooking, and we would meet at City Limits.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Fun fact about Ingham County. We’re the only county in the United States where the state capital resides in the county and yet it is not the county seat. Lansing, which is the state capital, is in Ingham County yet Mason is the county seat.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In about 10 years I see myself partially retired, living the American dream, and grooming my grandchild to run the family business.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I wear only shorts and sandals every day starting March 25 and it ends on November 25 I switch over to shoes and long pants.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
This may sound generic but I’m going to say anywhere in northern Michigan.

My favorite month is September, Christmas is my favorite holiday, & the best single day of the year is March 25.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My wife is a 10 out of 10. I married well above my pay grade.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Everybody I surround myself with inspires me to be a better person. But if I have to pick one person I am going to have to say my dad. He’s the king of that mountain.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Garlic and rosemary.
