Glenn Cruickshank

I’m a father of 6 and have lived in the USA since 2011. I was married for 15 years to my beautiful wife Julie, who passed away in December 2021. I have been the maintenance guy in Sycamore Village in Mason since 2013, and a Freemason for as long as I can remember.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My family is my rock now, and without them, I would be alone. They sometimes bicker and quarrel but then show me a family that doesn’t!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’m a maintenance guy at Sycamore Village but my future plans are on hold since my wife’s passing. I love my job and the people around the place I work.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I don’t eat out so I don’t have any favorite restaurants. But I do like good food!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived in Mason since 2012 and worked in the community since 2013.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
As for interesting people, everyone to me is interesting because everyone has a story or just needs an ear. However, my Freemason lodge has some of the most down to earth people I have ever met

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
If I could travel it would be to my wife’s ancestral home in Scotland.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite movie is “Avatar” and my favorite TV shows are about natural history.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Love yourself, love life, and always look forward!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
My wish is just to be secure.

Q: Who is your “go-to” band when you can’t decide what music you want to hear?
I play the flute so I really like to listen to my own music. This sounds vain but each song has meaning and most were written for my wife.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I love stores that have old stuff, I’m not from the USA so most things are unique to me here.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I guess it would be the CEO of my company to thank him for all the things he has enabled me to achieve, and we’d go anywhere he chose.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
It’s clean, quiet, and social.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I’m not sure, we’ll just see what comes.

I’m a Freemason, eastern star, and a few other groups associated with masonry.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
A beach in Florida with warm water and fresh seafood.

Q: Favorite month? Favorite holiday? Best single day on the calendar?
I don’t have a favorite holiday, but my wedding anniversary is the best day ever as my heart really sang that day.
