Teresa Wren

I’ve lived in Mason my entire life. I own and run Kean’s, a third-generation Dime Store, now a trendy retail destination for the Mid-Michigan area.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have been married to Steve Wren for 30 years!  We have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I own Kean’s Store. I love purchasing new products and getting positive, enthusiastic reactions from our customers.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Lucky’s, Cancun Mexican Grill, Saddleback, Bad Brewing and Darbs.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
Over 40 years!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Margaret Doolittle. A past teacher and author of a book about Mason.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
San Diego, California. It’s beautiful there. And my son Sean is in the Navy there. We miss him!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“Chef: is my favorite movie and “My Brilliant Friend” is my favorite TV show.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Don’t be so negative. See the good in people, be positive, caring, and more loving.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To visit Savannah, Georgia. And to learn more about our American history there.

Q: Who is your “go-to” band when you can’t decide what music you want to hear?
Bruno Mars.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
County offices in the courthouse.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Jennifer Abood Morris. And Janna Freeman. My two beasties from childhood.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The Courthouse Square.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Spending more time in Florida in the cold months. But still being very involved with the Store.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I was a cheerleader and Class Homecoming Queen in high school.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Turks and Cacouis with the Hayhoe’s.

Q: Favorite month? Favorite holiday? Best single day on the calendar?
September. Christmas.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Our freedom.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My staff.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Musk patchouli.
